Do you have the right mindset for weight/fat loss?
Achieving our goals becomes easier when we are in the right frame of mindset. See, I can say I want to lose weight, but am I ready to put in the effort, change my habits, and sacrifice my current comfortable lifestyle? Is losing weight/fat my highest priority or something it would be good to achieve? Only when losing weight is our highest priority goal, we have a chance to achieve it. Why? Because we have the right mindset and mindset is everything.
Many people desire to look thinner, aka lose weight, belly fat, but most people are not serious about it. They are not bothered until some health issue crops up or the doctor tells them to do it. When this happens, it’s like a wake-up call. Let’s not get to this point. In this blog post, I will show you what it takes to get in the right mindset and how to do it effectively. I cannot change your mind, only you can and you have the power. Read on.
Do you have the right mindset for losing weight?
To know that we are in the right mindset for losing weight and getting fitter, we need to honestly ask ourselves some questions. Here are the four most important questions, in my opinion, that you should ask yourself before embarking on your weight loss journey.
1. Is losing weight my highest priority at the moment?
When we tend to take our goal not so seriously we are giving our brain permission to take the easy way out. Losing your weight needs to be your highest priority. Only operating out of this mindset can bring you closer to your goal. If losing your weight and getting fitter is not your high priority, then you are not ready. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe you need to organise other parts of your life better or maybe you are dealing with something else at the moment. I suggest before you start your weight loss journey, ask yourself this question. If the answer is yes, proceed to another question.
2. Am I wiling to sacrifice my current lifestyle and habits to adopt new healthier lifestyle?
To lose weight, you will need to sacrifice. You will need to sacrifice your lifestyle and habits that brought you to this situation. You will need to leave your comfort zone. You see, everything that you are is a collection of habits and choices you made up until this point and you need to break that cycle. Are you ready to change? Are you ready to sacrifice? It’s going to be hard, there is no easy way out, no magic pill or a drink but you can do it if you are so determined to change your current lifestyle habits and adopt new healthier ones. If you are ready, then you need to commit to following through with action.
3. Am I ready to disconnect with people who are not supportive of my goal?
Our environment influences our lives in so many ways. People that we spend our time with, either they will lift us or bring us down, telling us what we cannot do. If we want to achieve any goal in life, we need to put ourselves in the right environment and associate with people who will support us and keep us accountable.
If someone is not supportive and encouraging of your weight loss goal and you are spending your precious time with that person, your chances of accomplishing your goal are very slim. You need to go back and ask yourself the question number 1.
I know at this moment it’s difficult to hang out with people in person due to the pandemic but we can find encouraging communities online with the same goal and burning WHY.
4. Do I know what will it take to accomplish my weight loss goal?
And the last question before you take more specific actions.
Many people underestimate the effort they will need to put to lose weight. Let’s be honest, you will not lose weight overnight, just like that. You will need to put a lot of sweat and discipline behind it. In the end, it will be worth it and you will be so proud of what you have accomplished. So what will it take? How much effort you will need to put in? This will all depend on your personalised exercise and nutritional program and overall action plan. Your fitness expert will be able to help you with this.
The people who lost weight successfully had this type of mindset:
I will do whatever it takes, no matter how long it takes until I accomplish my weight loss goal.
If you answered yes to all questions above, you are ready and in the right mindset for losing weight. I believe you know by now that by saying losing weight, I mean losing fat and as a consequence, your weight will go down. We want to preserve a healthy muscle mass in the process.
Weight loss goal as any goal worth the effort needs to be a priority to be successful. You will need to change your current lifestyle, to sacrifice. Furthermore, you will need to pick carefully people who you associate with and who will support and encourage you on your journey. Lastly, you will need to know approximately what will it take to achieve your goal. Then, you will be just unstoppable.
Get in the right mindset, what else is more important than your health?
